How to keep your hearing healthy

Your hearing is vital so that you can effectively socialise, with friends and family, and enjoy music.  It’s also the way you are warned of danger and allows you to participate in a  normal life.

North West Hearing, part of the Harley Street Hearing group, are committed to promoting hearing health and conservation.

See below a few ways you can keep your ears and your hearing healthy:-

Hearing Protection – your hearing is precious!

1 Make sure you avoid exposure to excessive noise . The world is now a very noisy place. It’s worth remembering that any loud sounds can cause irreversible damage to your hearing, even listening to music. Noise can also cause a ringing in the ears, called tinnitus and can make you extra  sensitive to everyday sounds. The only natural way of preventing noise damage is to keep the volume down.

2 Make sure you wear hearing protection when you are in a noisy situation. Custom made hearing protection helps you protect your hearing, while not compromising on the quality of sound, even having a normal conversation is not compromised when you wear these earplugs.

3 Reduce your exposure to noise. Make sure you take regular breaks if you have to be in a noisy situation this ensures your hearing has time to recover.

4 Hearing testing. Better to have a test if you have any concerns to put your mind at rest.  Then, should there be an issue, we have numerous types of invisible or discreet hearing aids which can help you.

Hearing Loss – don’t wait!

Research shows that most people wait up to ten years before they seek professional advice, preferring to “soldier on” rather than doing something about it.

It’s better to seek a solution early rather than waiting until you can’t manage any more.

Research also shows that if we ignore a hearing loss the hearing mechanism suffers from lack of stimulation (rather like underused muscles that waste away). By keeping your ears stimulated with sound this helps maintain a healthy hearing pathway to the brain, and because of this helps you to understand speech as clearly as possible.

Act now – if you are experiencing any hearing difficulties, such as problems communicating in background noise, or if you’re finding you need to turn up the TV volume, come and see us.

We can identify any problems quickly and explain your results providing clear, independent advice and what you will need to get you participating fully in a normal life.

Hearing Health – Your ears look after themselves

Ears have a natural cleansing mechanism which ensures wax does not build-up.  Earwax  is produced  to keep your ear canals healthy, and prevents any debris from reaching the eardrum.

The skin in your ear canal is very fine and sensitive, it is easily damaged; putting cotton buds into the ear simply pushes any wax closer to the eardrum and can also result in infections.

We offer a fast wax removal service, make an appointment to see one of our ear care practitioners. They will provide advice on ear care and can remove wax and other obstructions safely.
